Teaching quality assurance at the English Language Department of Engineering in the Technical University of Sofia

This paper is based on the results of an one-year TEMPUS project on development of teaching quality assurance procedures at the English Language Department of Engineering (ELDE) of the Technical University of Sofia, Sofia, Bulgaria. The aim of the paper is to present and analyse the results of the project and their application in the practice of ELDE. In the procedures developed is incorporated the experience in the field of the project of the partner universities - Brunel University of West London, University College Dublin and National Technical University Athens. The areas considered are the regulations developed for promotion of new courses programmes and for review of courses, the monitoring of students and programmes with emphasis on the selection and admission criteria suggested, the assessment procedures and regulations elaborated with emphasis on the responsibilities of the board examiners of ELDE and the external examiners and the setting of examination papers. The main results achieved are working quality assurance procedures at the ELDE. Future development is looked for in organisation of student-staff international mobility and foreign qualification recognition.
