Teaching the English language for specific purposes in university students

摘要
The global professional landscape is in constant movement and change; Professionals face increasingly greater challenges of communication, preparation and exchange, which demand high personal preparation in different crucial elements. Perhaps one of the most significant is preparation in the English language, which is the main form of communication worldwide. The objective of this research is to describe the elements related to teaching the English language for specific purposes including its methodological elements. For this, a basic and descriptive research is carried out that offers as main results the presentation of the needs and advantages that mastery of the English language provides for purposes from both a professional and personal point of view. The methodological elements that guarantee the adequate implementation of English language teaching in the context of Ecuadorian higher education are addressed. It is concluded that teaching the English language for specific purposes is essential for personal and professional growth. There are multiple tools and strategies that can be used in this regard. Mastery of the English language provides substantial advantages to Ecuadorian professionals that extend to both the professional and personal spheres.
