摘要
Due to the rapid development of technology and the expansion of scientific-technical information, technical terminology is developing very quickly. As terms are created to provide professional communication in different spheres they are supposed to reflect accurately the results of experience and practical activity. The article studies the ways of technical terms formation in the field of engineering and the methods used to teach them to university students specialized in translation. Currently available methods of terms formation are given on the examples of technical terms in the engineering industry. The main objective of this work is to outline the methods and ways applied when teaching technical terms to university students. In order to achieve this objective the following tasks are set: to define a term to distinguish it from a word or a word combination; to analyze the structure of multicomponent terms and interdependence of their components; Generalizing the definitions of different authors, we will consider a term to be a lexical unit with the definitive and nominative function within a particular sphere of its functioning. According to the conventional classifications, the following ways of term formation can be distinguished: syntactic, morphological and syntactical, semantic. Conclusions about the most productive methods of forming terms in the studied field are drawn in the article. Main ways of terms formation analyses, levels of equivalence studies aim to provide students with skills that will help them solve terminological problems when interpreting a given source text.
