(Figure Presented) Made from sugar: Heptakis (2,3-dideoxy-2,3-epithio)- β-cycloallin has been synthesized in a one-pot procedure from a β-cyclodextrin derivative. Molecular modeling studies suggest that the structure of the cycloallin is inverted relative to that of regular cyclodextrins, with the sulfur atoms of the epithio groups pointing inwards to form the narrower aperture (see model; S yellow, O red, C gray, H white). © 2005 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
