Information technology as basis of economic growth: The case of Singapore

In recent years Singapore has reached an annual economic growth rate of more than five percent on average. One of key factors of this success was the application of information technology. This article shows the role of information technology as a ''motor'' of the economic growth. It describes the improvements of processes in economy and adminstration by using information technology as well as the development of an information technology industry. Examples of the construction and real estate sector and of the educational system demonstrate the high level Singapore achieved in the application of information technology.
