摘要
Natural products with heteroatom rich ring systems are aesthetically pleasing molecules that provide a platform for innovation in synthetic heterocyclic chemistry. Herein, we discuss one subset of these natural products, the 1,2,4-thiadiazoles. Alongside their isolation and biological activity, fascinating biosynthesis proposals are also provided. All the known 1,2,4-thiadiazole alkaloids have succumbed to synthesis, leading to advances in heterocyclic chemistry and biomimetic synthesis.
