Necessary Capacity Reserve as a Problem of Plant Operation Scheduling.

A practical method for determining the capacity reserve necessary for operational reasons is presented. This allows the control engineer to calculate, for the respective daily plant operation plan, the minute and hour reserve necessary to ensure a given system reliability. On the basis of an analysis of the operating behavior of the individual generating units as well as of a model of reserve operation following power station failure, the basic steps of the recursive cumulative failure probability method are explained using two realistic mathematical problems. Several factors affecting the reserve are discussed, with special attention to the importance of the reliability level.
