摘要
The performance of an 'air-cleaner' for the control of radon (Rn-222) progeny in dwellings and in laboratory spaces has been investigated in a walk-in Radon/Thoron Test Facility (RTTF). The air cleaner consists of a fan and a special filter material sandwiched between two metal screens to which an electric field is applied. The filter is the polarized fibre-glass media type. The fan and filter system are housed in a metal case. Air is drawn from the back of the case by means of the fan and passed through the 'electrical' filter where removal of Rn-222 progeny occurs. Radon-222 progeny 'depleted' air is discharged at the top of the device. Experiments were carried out in Rn-222/Rn-222 progeny atmospheres when the air cleaner was operating and when it was turned off. A very significant decrease in the Potential Alpha Energy Concentration (PAEC) and aerosol concentration, among other effects, were observed during the operation of the air cleaner. The device has potential in industrial applications, which should be explored.
