摘要：

The polarised excited-state optical absorption spectrum of a single crystal of Cs2UO2Cl4 at 77 K is reported. The intense absorption band near 580 nm is polarised parallel to the U-O axis. This observation is used to locate the highest-filled gerade orbital and to establish the role of the 6d orbitals in the formation of the uranyl ion.
