ICHTHYOPLANKTON OF THE COASTAL AREA OF PARANA STATE BRAZIL - A REVIEW

In this literature review we have focused on the current knowledge of ichthyoplankton in Parana State (SE Brazil). Most of the works carried out in offshore environments concern the species Sardinella brasiliensis with emphasis on its biological and ecological aspects. Most of the papers concerning the estuarine environments deals with eggs and larvae distribution. with identifications kept to family level. Attempts to integrate ichthyoplankton data with the current knowledge of the taxonomy, biology and ecology of adults were unsatisfactory and few. With the possible exception of Sardinella brasiliensis, present information concern regional ichthyoplankton is not adequate for the establishment of safe strategies concern resource management.
