RANKING OF THE CYTOKINES INTERLEUKIN-1, TUMOR-NECROSIS-FACTOR AND INTERLEUKIN-6 IN JUVENILE RHEUMATOID-ARTHRITIS

摘要
Interleukin-1, tumor necrosis factor and interleukin-6 are mediators of inflammation, produced by monocytes/macrophages and a multitude of other cells. There is a causal connection with the pathogenesis of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. All cytokines are characterized by pleiotrope paracrine, autocrine and endocrine effects on target cells. This paper informs clinicians on the various and partly overlapping effects of the three cytokines mentioned above in relation to the persisting and self-perpetuating reactions of inflammation in juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Additional mechanisms of regulation of the network of cytokines are described.
