LAYER-BY-LAYER DEPOSITION OF SUPERCONDUCTING SR-CA-CU-O FILMS BY THE SPRAY-PYROLYSIS TECHNIQUE

Layer-by-layer deposition of Sr-Ca-Cu-O films has been carried out using the spray pyrolysis technique. Reagent-grade nitrates of strontium, calcium and copper were used to prepare starting solutions for spray pyrolysis. A two-step procedure was used for every layer of the constituents in the sequence Sr-Cu-Ca-CuSr: first, deposition onto silver substrate at 350 degrees C, then firing at T greater than or equal to 450 degrees C, both at atmospheric pressure. The films were 2-3 mu m thick and showed adequate adhesion to the substrate. The films were then characterised by studying their electron micrographs, X-ray diffraction patterns and electrical resistivity. The films showed superconductivity below 104 K.
