STUDY OF STRUCTURAL AND MECHANICAL-BEHAVIOR OF PM ALUMINUM IRON-ALLOYS PRODUCED BY SINTER-FORGING

This paper concerns Al-3 % Fe and Al-8 % Fe-1 % Zr (% mass) alloys elaborated by sinter-forging from air atomized powders. The powders used are only slightly oversaturated. The precipitation processes were followed by differential scanning calorimetry and the corresponding activation energy was determined. The Al-O connection was shown, even after abrasion. On the other hand, no Fe-O or Zr-O connection could be detected. The maximal load at rupture R(m) of the materials forged from the Al-Fe-Zr powder is clearly higher than the one of Al-Fe materials. The morphology of the rupture face is of the <<interparticle>> type, for the most part.
