Gender variable and its relationship with the self- esteem and the academic efficiency of university students

摘要
The aim of this paper is to determine whether different self-concepts (physical, social, family, intellectual, personal and sense of control) and academic performance vary by gender freshmen at the University of Jaen. The study included 410 subjects of different degrees: English Philo-logy and Tourism, Nursing, Biology, Business, Electricity E. T., Art History, Psychology, Tourism, Chemistry, Law, Physical Education teacher, topography and Statistics and Computer Management. The instrument used was the "Self-Concept Questionnaire (CAG)" developed by Garcia Torres (2001) to evaluate the different dimensions of self-concept. The conclusions drawn from this study is that men score above average in every respect to self-concepts and academic performance no differences between men and women.
