摘要
The classical plasmid-mediated beta-lactamases can alter their specificity towards the hydrolysis of so-called beta-lactamase stable compounds, such as third-generation cephalosporins, by simple one step mutation and subsequent selection. Although currently this mechanism is rare, it causes concern in specific clinical settings and precautions have to be taken in order to prevent the spread of this particular resistance mechanism.
