LOW-FREQUENCY AC LOSSES NEAR LOWER CRITICAL-FIELD OF HIGH-TC SUPERCONDUCTORS

Low-frequency AC losses of grain-aligned YBa2Cu3O7 and La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 have been studied under a sweep of a biased DC field. Characteristics of real and imaginary parts of the AC susceptibility have been discussed in terms of magnetization curve with relaxation. The lower critical field, H(cl), has been evaluated from a sharp increase in the AC losses down to low temperatures. Observed H(cl)-T curves exhibit rather linear behavior with H(cl) (0) congruent-to 350 Oe for H perpendicular-to c of YBa2Cu3O7(T(c) = 91 K) and approximately 95 Oe for La1.85Sr0.15CuO4(T(c) = 37 K).
