Pediatric urology was recognized as a specialty by the Dutch Urological Association some 35 years ago in order to provide optimal care for children with serious congenital urological abnormalities. At present the position of this young specialty is under threat because of reorganization of our healthcare system. For this reason we have to be prudent not to return to the situation some 40 years ago. © 2015, Bohn Stafleu van Loghum.
