The management of neuropathic pain

摘要：
The concept of neuropathic pain is currently changing based on revised understanding of its pathophysiological mechanisms. Although several new agents have been found to be effective in experimental studies, antidepressants and anticonvulsants are those most frequently used for the treatment of neuropathic pain. Unfortunately, they sometimes carry severe and disturbing side effects. Nerve blocks or regional treatments may lessen the dose of the drugs and thus decrease the incidence of systemic side effects of the drugs. Several nerve blocks or regional treatments appear useful to alleviate and control neuropathic pain and sometimes to inhibit development of neuropathic pain.
