Reactions of [IrCl(Bu-2(t)PH)(3)] with [M-3(CO)(12)](M=Fe,Ru): Synthesis and X-ray crystal structures of the metal clusters [Ru-3(CO)(8)(mu-H)(2)(mu(3)-PBut)(Bu-2(t)PH)] and [Ru3Ir(CO)(7)(mu-H)(2)(mu-PBu2t)(2)(Bu-2(t)PH)(mu(3)-Cl)]

The reactions of [IrCl((Bu2PH)-P-t)(3)] (1) with the metal carbonyls [M-3(CO)(12)] (M = Fe, Ru) in refluxing toluene have been investigated. By using [Ru-3(CO)(12)] the metal cluster [Ru-3(CO)(8)(mu-H)(2)(mu(3)-PBut)((Bu2PH)-P-t)] (2) and the butterfly configured heterometallic cluster [Ru3Ir(CO)(7)(mu-H)(2)(mu-PBu2t)(2)((Bu2PH)-P-t)(mu(3)-Cl)] (3) were obtained. On the contrary, the reaction of 1 with [Fe-3(CO)(12)] leads under cluster degradation beside the mononuclear complex [Fe(CO)(4)((Bu2PH)-P-t)] (5) to the known compound [FeIr(mu-CO)(CO)(4)(mu-PBu2t)((Bu2PH)-P-t)] (4) in good yields. The molecular structures of 2 and 3 have been determined by single crystal X-ray studies.
