Bulk heterojunction solar cells based on a novel low band gap polymer, PBDTTPD, were investigated. In the conventional device structures, a power conversion efficiency of 4.1% could be achieved from the thin film blend of PBDTTPD:PC71BM(1:2) with a current density of 9.8mAcm-2, Voc of 0.84 V, and FF of ∼ 50%. The high Voc (0.87 V) is the result of the lower HOMO level of the polymer. In addition, inverted devices with PBDTTPD: PC71BM (1:2) as active layer were also investigated. © 2010 American Chemical Society.
