Drama making as a research process

In this paper I lay out some of the factors that are responsible for the relative weakness of the place of practice as research. I will then compare aspects of the qualitative research approach with the drama-making process and claim that drama-making seems to meet some of the descriptions of qualitative work. I then look at the conflicting positivist paradigms and lay out the fundamentals of positivist research approaches. Grounding an examination of the drama-making process in one of my own projects, I will then posit that it may be possible to claim certain organizational similarities between what we do and what scientists do. Finally I posit that, if we are to give practice the place it deserves as a research process, we need to arrive at a more sophisticated understanding of how it functions as research.
