Craterellus atrobrunneolus sp. nov. from southwestern China

A new ectomycorrhizal fungus from southwestern China, Craterellus atrobrunneolus, is proposed as supported by morphological and phylogenetic analyses. The basidiocarps are characterized by a dark brown to brownish gray coloration, convex to plano-convex pileus with an umbilicate but not perforate center, smooth to slightly folded gray to cretaceous hymenophore, absence of clamp connections in all tissues, narrow basidia with 2-6 sterigmata, and broadly ellipsoid to subglobose basidiospores. Maximum likelihood and Bayesian sequence analyses of the ITS + nrLSU DNA regions confirm the phylogenetic position of the new species.
