Dynamic knowledge-base construction through knowledge discovery

This paper introduces a data-driven approach to knowledge-base constructing and discusses the application thereof to the National Research and Technology (NRT) audit data warehouse which contains the results of a recent South African government survey. Data mining techniques are used to construct a knowledge-base directly from the data contained in the data warehouse. In this way, the time-consuming process of acquiring knowledge from human experts is avoided. Results indicate that this approach produces interesting, useful knowledge regarding the current state of science and technology in South Africa.
