Electromagnetic transients due to a high impedance arcing fault in MV networks

摘要
In this paper, the electromagnetic transients due to the high impedance arcing fault that is caused by tree leaning in medium voltage (MV) networks are discussed. The fault model is incorporated in 20kV distribution network at different locations using ATP/EMTP program. The fault modeling has been experimentally verified. The residual voltage and current associated with this disturbance are measured considering different neutral earthing methods. It is revealed that the main features of this fault type that can enhance its detection are the electromagnetic transients created by the periodic arc-reignition.
