摘要
The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding CNT on the properties of dissimilar friction stir welded aluminum alloys. For this purpose, a tool with threaded tapered cylindrical pin was designed and manufactured from H13 hot working steel. Reliability of the joints was assessed by non-destructive tests such as visual inspection, ultrasonic and radiography. Tensile joint efficiency of successful dissimilar welds was more than 100% for 4 mm/min tool transverse speed and 2000 rpm tool rotational rate. Electron microscopy evaluation of fractured surfaces indicated that the dominant failure mechanism was ductile fracture. Addition of CNT into the joint area during welding led to hardness and wear resistance increment while reduced the ductility of welding samples. The friction coefficient in the two-passes welded sample was about 30% lower than the friction coefficient of the base metal.
