INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (IMS) IN SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES

In the past, a lot of companies have implemented and certified a quality management (QM) system. In most cases, particularly in small and medium size enterprises (SMSE) the process followed the ISO 9000 standard. An alternative approach is to implement the management system in accordance to a total quality management (TQM) model. Nowaday, apart from the implementation of QM or TOM system, focus has been placed on Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (OHSAS) management system. This paper describes the concepts that integrate different kind of management system and analise how is it possible to transfer and apply these concept in SMSE. The integrated management system(IMS) is built up in a process oriented way and considers the standards ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment), OHSAS 18001 (occupational safety) and others.
