摘要
Scale formation control is important in order to optimize the steel surface quality in a balance between metal yield losses and low decarburization depth. In this study, the case of billets reheating in CH(4)-based off-gas is considered, namely including a model for the oxygen partial pressure. The results from thermo-gravimetric experiments and metallographic studies are discussed, showing how the atmosphere, steel composition and the reheating pattern influence the amount, structure and composition of the oxide layer. Some possible ways of oxidation protection are also investigated.
