Rhenium(V) complexes with 2-mercaptoimidazole

Optimum conditions for the synthesis of mono-, di-, and tetrasubstituted complexes of rhenium(V) with 2-mercaptoimidazole are developed. The sulfur atom of the thione group in a 2-mercaptoimidazole molecule is found to coordinate with rhenium(V). The number of water molecules of crystallization in the complexes increases with an increase in the number of coordinated 2-mercaptoimidazole molecules. The nature of the halide ion and the number of coordinated 2-mercaptoimidazole molecules affect the thermolysis onset temperature of the complexes.
