摘要
Recovering from decades of civil war and displacement Kachin State in Myanmar is facing another deadly threat: an HIV/AIDS epidemic, which continues to explode despite wide spread knowledge and availability of condoms. World Concern Myanmar (WCM) used qualitative research to explore susceptibility factors to HIV/AIDS amongst youth. Findings reveal a complex picture characterized by a spiral of displacement, delinquency, drug abuse, socio-economic pressure and changing cultural norms and influences. This leads to increased sexual risk taking behaviour. WCM advocates an integrated, mainstreamed programme approach, promoting community-based initiatives, which address social-cultural and structural issues, focusing on redefining self-identity amongst the youth.
