摘要
An Al2O3-5vol%ZrO2 micro/nano-composite was successfully fabricated by using the HE ball mill mixing. The role of HE ball milling was to reduce the crystallite size of Al2O3, powder into half of the as received powder, as well as introducing some strain in the particles. Thus, the refinement of Al2O3 powder seem to be effective to embed ZrO2 particles in the Al2O3 grains by the enhanced grain growth of the Al2O3, matrix. The mixed powders could be sintered to a nearly full density at 1400degreesC in the ambient atmosphere. The matrix grain size of the composite was under 0.6mum. The flexural strength of the composites was 1.3 times higher than that of monolithic Al2O3.
