NDT in the steel industry

The UK steel industry produces some 17 million tonnes/annum of finished and semi-finished products, and is the UK's fourth largest manufacturing exporter with over 50% of output exported. Operating cost and product quality are key issues for profitable operation. NDT has two major areas of application, namely plant condition monitoring and product testing. Both are of importance to the short- and long-term success of the business; both involve a broad range of well-established and newer technologies. The following describe some key aspects of these activities in British Steel.
