Some 3-D metal complexes of N,N'-bis(indol-2-oxo-3-ylidene)-1,3-diaminopropane

Metal chelates of the chlorides and acetates of Ni(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Cr(III), Fe(III) and Mn(II) with N,N'-bis(indol-2-oxo-3-ylidene)-1,3-diaminopropane were prepared and characterized by analytical, conductivity, magnetic, H-1 NMR, infrared and electronic spectral data. It was found that the ligand acts as neutral, dinegative ONNO quadridentate, yielding neutral and cationic complexes. Magnetic and spectral data suggest a square-planar structure for the Ni(II) and Co(II) chelates, an octahedral one for the Mn(II), Fe(III) and Cr(III) chelates and a dimeric penta-coordinate structure for the Cu(II) chelate.
