A Study on the Development of Non-English Majors' English Language Competence Standards

摘要
The standards of students' English language competence are reflected in the syllabus of College English Teaching drawn up by the Ministry of Education in China. The evolution and development of the syllabus in China has gone from scratch to existence, from putting forward the concept to establishing a perfect standard assessment of language competence, to stepping into a new stage of innovation and development. By studying the English language competence standards of Non-English Majors in College English syllabus in the past 60 years, this paper tries to sort out and analyze the evolution of ideas, contents, methods and scales, and summarizes the law of development. Some suggestions are put forward, such as unifying the standard system of English language competence in Chinese universities, middle schools and primary schools, formulating more scientific and reasonable standards, and cultivating students' ability of comprehensive application of English language with the aim of developing national foreign language competence.
