(Chemical Equation Presented) Carbonyl ylides to the fore: the first total synthesis of polygalolides A (1) and B (2) has been achieved by exploiting a tandem carbonyl ylide formation/1,3-dipolar cycloaddition to construct the unprecedented 5,10-dioxatricyclo-[6.2.1.0]undecane core structure of these molecules in a single step. © 2006 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH &.
