A simple, novel, efficient, and environmentally benign protocol has been established for the synthesis of -diaminophosphonates in good to excellent yields (74-93%) by a one-pot, three-component reaction of 4,4-dioxyaniline, various aryl/heteroaryl aldehydes, and diphenyl H-phosphonate by using polyethylene glycol (PEG-600) in water as a green solvent at 80 degrees C via Kabachnik-Fields reaction. The structures of all newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, H-1, C-13, P-31 NMR, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis.
