摘要：
In this paper, the authors present problems regarding the rating analysis for higher education institutions (HEIs). An analysis of the existing rating models for Russian universities is reviewed and discussed in this paper, and new rating models are suggested. The authors consider some patterns of ranking higher education institutions that are currently utilised in Russia in order to reveal their strengths and weaknesses from the point of view of meeting the national needs (those of the individual, society and state), as well as the needs of the international academic community for information concerning Russian higher education institutions.
