摘要
This study presents the public discourse of a group of men, predominantly from the Southern Region of Brazil, about the decriminalization of abortion. It ' s part of a larger survey about abortion, whose purpose was to get to know the opinion of men and women, over 18, based on the question: "If you could vote, would you vote for or against the decriminalization of abortion? Give arguments for your answer." Of a total of 2,200 responses, 550 were from men and, among them, 52% were In Favor of it and 47% Against it. Among the men who positioned themselves In Favor, the most voted arguments were: "Women's right to control their own body", with 50.9%; and "Abortion is a public health issue.", with 14.5%. In the group that stands Against, the arguments that prevailed were: "Everyone has the right to life", in 47%; and " There are contraceptive methods; why didn't she use it?", in 27%. The position of men in relation to that of women was relatively close to the In Favor / Against index. It is concluded that both lack knowledge to understand the fundamentals of a prochoice perspective in relation to abortion.
