A new coordination polymer, {[Mn(bpdc)(bibp)]center dot H2O}(n) (1) (H(2)bpdc = biphenyl- 2,4 '-dicarboxylate and bibp = 4,4 '-bis(imidazol-1-yl)biphenyl), has been prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR and EA. Complex, {[Mn(bpdc)(bibp)]center dot H2O}(n) (1), is monoclinic, space group C2/c with a = 34.453 (5) angstrom, b = 10.028 (5) angstrom, c = 19.310 (5)angstrom, beta = 122.760 (5)degrees, V = 5610 (3) angstrom(3), Z = 8, M-r = 599.49, D-c = 1.419g/cm(3), F(000) = 2472 and mu = 0.52mm(-1). The final refinement gave R = 0.0404 and wR = 0.1029 for reflections with I > 2 sigma(I). X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the title complex {[Mn(bpdc)(bibp)]center dot H2O}(n)(1) displays a self- catenane rob topological network.
