摘要：

The aim of this article is to analyze the usage of literary precedent names in the Russian media discourse on the issue of anti-Russian sanctions with the source being precedent names in the Russian classical literature from 19th and 20th centuries. The analysis is focused on the main functions of precedent names in the excerpted media news, the selection of particular names made by the author of the text, the relevance of the precedent names in the selected texts, as well as their effect on the recipient. An important part of the article is devoted to theoretical definition of the term precedent phenomenon with its hyponym precedent name.
