An enantiospecific first total synthesis of (+)-trans-alpha-himachalene, one of the eight male specific sesquiterpenes isolated from the crucifer flea beetle Phyllotreta cruciferae, starting from the readily and abundantly available monoterpene, (R)-carvone, is described.
