摘要
Considerable success has been achieved in developing algorithms that are efficient from the standpoint of number of operations. However what is needed now is to develop hardware architectures that can efficiently exploit these reduced computational complexity algorithms. In this paper an architecture is described that takes advantage of the reduced computational requirements of the polynomial transform method for computing 2-D DFTs of images. The system is based on Xilinx field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). The performance of the architecture is presented and the advantages of the implementation in terms of area efficiency and computation rate are highlighted.
