摘要
This paper argues that pitfalls in learning algebra can be classified in three: those inherent to object, those inherent to subject, and those as a consequences of the teaching modes. Here we point to students' difficulties for learning algebra inherent to object, by focusing in two concepts of algebra: algebra as a generalization of arithmetic, and algebra as a language. We use empirical data from previous research on this topic.
