EXPLORATORY TEST ON COMPETENCIES OF PROSPECTIVE PRIMARY TEACHERS: KNOWLEDGE OF BASIC CONCEPTS OF STATISTICS

This paper evaluates one of the specific competences proposed in the curriculum of the new Undergraduate Degree for teaching elementary statistics in a sample of 144 Prospective Primary Teachers. Furthermore, the competence evaluated is "To know, analyze and to apply basic knowledge for practicing at the class of Primary Education, both conceptual aspects and didactics". For this purpose, we have designed a questionnaire to detect the lack of such competences, evaluating the basic knowledge for the work in a Primary Education classroom, on its conceptual aspects. The results show a little level of competence, because of a high percentage of important failures can be noticed in some areas of the subject.
