The fractal dimension of reflected ultrasonic signals in steel slabs with wittingly introduced defects is analyzed. The dependence of the fractal dimension on the defect size is demonstrated. The resolving power of a method used to estimate the fractal dimension of acoustic location responses and its applicability in practical flaw detection are considered.
