Narcissistic Leadership and Feedback Avoidance Behavior: The Role of Sense of Power and Proactive Personality

摘要
In this paper, we examined the impact mechanism of narcissistic leadership on employees' feedback avoidance behavior by focusing on the mediating role of followers' perceived personal power and the moderating role of proactive personality. Using the paired survey questionnaires from 221 subordinates and 46 supervisors, this study found that: (a) narcissistic leadership positively influenced followers' feedback avoidance behavior; (b) this influence was mediated by subordinates' sense of power; (c) proactive personality moderated the relationship between narcissistic leadership and feedback avoidance behavior, such that the relationship was weaker among employees with high level of proactive personality; and (d) moderated mediation analyses showed that proactive personality moderated the mediating role of sense of power on relationship between narcissistic leadership and feedback avoidance behavior.
