摘要
Court interpreting is indispensible in ensuring equality and justice in trials involving foreigners, ethnic minorities or the deaf who do not speak the language of the court. With globalization rapidly developing and international exchange constantly increasing, more and more foreign-related cases occur in mainland China. The paper starts with a brief analysis of the major problems in court interpreting in mainland China. Then it moves on to talk about the latest development of court interpreting in Tianjin and Shanghai. Drawing on the experience of building talent pools of court interpreters in these two cities, this paper offers some suggestions about how to set up a nationwide talent pool and improve the court interpreting practice in mainland China.
