Features of interannual variability of water dynamics and hydrological structure in the active layer in the northeastern part of the Black Sea from 1990 to 2004

Features of interannual variability of water dynamics and hydrological structure in the upper active (oxygen-containing) layer are studied on the basis of hydrographic surveys that have been carried out two or three times every year starting from 1990 over a permanent hydrographic 100-mile-long section "coast-cente of the sea" in the northeastern part of the Black Sea. A 15-year time series (1990-2004) of air temperature and wind measurements from the Gelendzhik meteorological station located on the northeastern coast of the sea was analyzed. Over these 15 years, three periods with different meteorological conditions were distinguished. In 1991-1994, the winters were cold; in 1995-1998, the winters were moderate; and in 1999-2001, the winters were warm. In the periods mentioned above and in 2004, the variations in water dynamics and hydrological structure in the active layer in the northeastern part of the sea are analyzed.
