摘要
LIM domain proteins display various functions including gene regulation, cell fate determination, tumour formation and cytoskeleton organization. A diverse group of LIM domain proteins have been identified, and alternative RNA splicing combined with alternative transcription/translation initiation or termination sites is one of the key molecular mechanisms contributing to the proteome and functional diversity of LIM domain proteins. However, to date, few of the alternative spliced LIM domain proteins has been fully clarified. Further studies on functional significance of the alternative spliced LIM domain proteins and their relevance to the full length isoforms should be done in a cell and tissue specific manner.
