摘要
Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease. In Egypt, breast cancer is the most familiar type. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) deregulation plays an important role in the pathogenesis of breast cancer. We aimed to explore for the first time the diagnostic potential of miR-639 and miR-10b in breast cancer in Africa and the Middle East; especially Egyptian patients. Sixty breast cancer patients (21 metastatic and 39 non-metastatic) and twenty healthy ethnically matched controls were studied. Circulating miR-639 and miR-10b were amplified and quantitatively detected by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). The serum level of CA-15.3 was measured using chemiluminescence immunoassays. Serum concentration of p53 was measured using ELISA. The serum expression of miR-639 and miR-10b were significantly higher in breast cancer patients than controls (p < 0.001). The sensitivity and total accuracy of miR-10b were 78.3% and 83.75%, respectively, while 65% and 73.75% for miR-639. Our data proposed that; circulating miR-639 and miR-10b might be a promising biomarker for the diagnosis of breast cancer at early stages.
