PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF CATIONIC FLUORINATED POLYACRYLATE EMULSION AS PAPER WATER AND OIL-RESISTANT AGENT

摘要
The synthesis and properties of self-emulsifying cationic fluoroacrylate copolymer emulsion prepared with styrene(St), methacrylatoethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC), butyl acrylate (BA), octadecyl acrylate(ODA) and 2-(perfluorooctyl)ethyl acrylate (FEA) by soap-free emulsion copolymerization were studied. The copolymer was characterized by using Fourier Infrared Spectrum(FT-IR), Differential Scanning Calorimeters(DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) techniques. The FT-IR demonstrated that the polymer had been successfully copolymerized with St, DMC, BA, ODA and FEA. The TGA of the polymer indicated that the decomposition temperature was largely higher than the required temperature of paper surface sizing. The DSC analysis confirmed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) was 41 degrees C. The surface properties of the copolymer film were measured by contact angle measurements. The results showed that the paper sized by the fluorinated emulsion exhibited good water and oil-resistant ability. The water and oil-resistant ability was improved with the increase of fluorinated groups, but to some extent, it was not charged any more. The maximal degree of the contact angles for the sized paper to water and liquid paraffin was 134 degrees and 110 degrees, respectively, at the same time the paper strength, fracture-resist degree, brightness and smoothness respectively were increased by 10.81%, 7.23%, 0.15% and 45.21%. At last, the function mechanism of the water and oil-resistant agent is also discussed.
